History

Velda Holland was born to Fred and Aurina (Rena) Holland in Victoria, BC in 1909. The family lived at 1315 Camosun Street from 1910-1954. She graduated with a Domestic Science Diploma from Girls' Central School in 1924. She earned an advanced certificate in penmanship lessons in the Commercial Edition of the MacLean Method of Muscular Movement Writing in 1925; completed a regular course of study in the Stenography Department with honours from Sprott Shaw Business Institute in 1926; passed a junior theoretical musical exam with distiniction in April 1933 and an intermediate organ exam in June 1933 in Victoria, BC through the McGill University Conservatorium of Music. She went on to teach music education, serve as All Saints Church Chair, and work as a secretary at Royal Roads Military College, and held a British Columbia Driver's Licence in 1929. She moved from View Royal to a retirement home in Saanich and passed away in 2001.
