The View Royal Historical Committee recognized their growing collections and commitments would be best sustained through the creation of a community archive. The publication of local history book, Craigflower Country 1850-1950, provided the start-up funds required to establish The View Royal Community Archives in 1998. For more than a decade, operations were overseen by a dedicated group of volunteers with the assistance of professional Archivists when required. In 2010, collections were officially transferred to the Town of View Royal.

The Town of View Royal is located on southern Vancouver Island, approximately six kilometers west of Victoria, British Columbia in the Capital Regional District. We would like to acknowledge that we live within the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples, known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, and that their historic connections to these lands continue to this day.

Collections are comprised of records of local community organizations, family histories and other information relating people and activities within the current and historical boundaries of the area. Items include photographs, slides, drawings, maps, plans, ledgers, minute books, receipts, and correspondence.

Fridays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

No user fees for access to the Archives.

Accessible entrance and seating.

Research assistance and school programs offered.
